Techniques – This contemporary piece was painted using a traditional method of applying several fine pigment glazes over a dark tonal background. I started the first layer in Lapis Lazuli Blue as a cool colour and then applied layers of warmer earth tones. The attention to detail and extensive layering of fine strokes achieves an almost translucent finish to the eye itself, and added realism to the fur.
